Title of lecture: The Promise and Peril of Data in Humanitarian Action

Abstract: New technologies and data sources are helping us to make faster, more informed decisions and we are reaching more people with assistance every year. However, the ways in which data is collected, shared and used by individual organizations and across the humanitarian system can present challenges to the privacy and security of affected people. To protect the people we seek to help, we must be able to navigate the technical and ethical issues involved with managing different types of data. In this lecture, Leonardo Milano and Stuart Campo from OCHA's Centre for Humanitarian Data will share their experience navigating the promise and peril of data in humanitarian action.
